Unified Communications and The Art of Agility

Your Go Everywhere Office...

One of the most prevalent trends in agile communications is applications delivered via smart phones. It doesn't matter if it's a company asset or Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), research shows that productivity flourishes.

The benefits of agile communications

For telecommuters or home workers, allowing access to business communication tools such as voice, video and instant messaging; allows employees to feel connected.

The prevalence of mobile devices in the world serves as a precursor to their use in business.

Mary Meeker’s 2013 trend report recognised over 1.5 billion smartphone subscribers with room to grow. YouGov’s Media, Technology and Telecoms predicts that 50 percent of all households will own a tablet by the end of 2014.

In fact, 78 percent of people aged between 20 and 33 would prefer greater mobile use at work. The generation that follows will require it. The emerging workforce grew up and trained in at home and school with smartphones, tablets and laptops at their disposal. They have been trained to be mobile.

The time has arrived for businesses to join the mobile world. For true business mobility, cloud computing, evolved devices, high performance wireless and the enhancement of unified communications had to unite to make it reasonable for businesses to go mobile.

What once was only portable is now truly mobile through cloud computing. A survey by Gartner cites 38 percent of businesses surveyed are in the cloud already, but 80 percent of those not in the cloud will make the move within twelve months. A study by Capgemini Consulting and MIT demonstrated that companies that transform their business rather than experiment with mobility have greater success.

The mobile office needs to be a part of your business strategy. What will mobility mean for your business and how will you transform your company?

BYOD - Happy employees, happy business

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has a whole variety of benefits for both the employee and the employer. Allowing employees to use devices they’re familiar with not only increases overall efficiency, but also enables small businesses to leverage the latest features available in the cutting edge technology that more and more consumers are keeping pace with. By cultivating a team of happy employees, small businesses can also ensure job satisfaction and employee productivity – both essential tools for driving the success of a small business.

Missed opportunity

The reality in small businesses is slightly different though. Although it would seem obvious for small business employers to support the technology that their employees are comfortable using, our research of 2,500 office workers across Europe revealed some contradictory results. While Germany is leading the way with almost 45% of small businesses catering for trend, the UK lags notably behind the rest of Europe with only 18% of employees allowed to use their own device in the workplace. However, interestingly, 40% of UK businesses support remote working. This sheds light on a huge cost-saving opportunity that remains for small businesses to capitalise on. By combining off-site working with BYOD, SMBs can offer their employees flexible working practices to suit both personal and business priorities, while significantly reducing overhead costs.

Missed calls = missed revenue

In its report, Small Business Call Report 2016, Moneypenny also revealed that 69% of the callers who were answered by voicemail declined to leave a message, and instead hung up

Mobile Network Reliability

The United Kingdom has the highest mobile connection speeds @ 23.7 Mbps in Europe and the prevalence of Wi-Fi means very few black-spots remain. 5G is also just around the corner.
